| Nocturnos Example – (Zubo Nocturnus) ![]() He is the stallion starter for this breed. Breeds;; Fresian (horse) Great Eagle Owl (bird) Height;; No restrictions although the base stock is a Fresian type of body. Eyes;; Golden yellow or orange owl eyes are the breeds eye type, however when bred with other breeds, there is a chance of inheriting the other breeds eyes. The owl eyes are preferred in the Nocturnos breed, as they are night creatures and it is in their nature to use their vision for darker environments. A colt bred without the typical owl eyes would do best in a daytime environment.. Wanted - Golden eyes are the most sought Body Markings;; Markings of this breed if pure are a base black, with shades of almost midnight blue shimmering throughout. If a combination of two different breeds, markings are combined from both parents half the time and half the time the result will be the typical Nocturnos breed black. The base color is almost always the black with markings if markings occur. Mane’s and tail’s;; The mane and tail usually represent the birds coloring. In the case of Zubo, the Great Owl wings he has is also reflected in the coloring of his mane and tail. His leg hair, although long is the base black of the body. In the future we may find more raptor winged equines, as this is a hope of mine to provide my stable with raptor quality wings in my equines. Hooves;; Hooves are a shining black in the base breed. Variations may occur while breeding ( white hoof and sock, pink hoof...) Legs;; Same as above, base is black, Fresian stock legs with longer hair from the knees down. Variations according to breeding. Body Build;; Any breed is acceptable to be Nocturnos providing that the equine would be able to hold wings. Usually back, leg and neck muscles are strong. If a horse that is smaller is bred with this stock, the wings may be noticeably smaller to account for the body. Wings;; The wings will resemble the bird wings or parents. The wings of the Nocturnos are those of a Great Eagle Owl. Very different from a hawk or eagle, these wings are shaped like an owls. Most all of the long feathers only lengthen a bit as they progress down the wing, unlike an eagle or hawk, whose longest feathers are much longer than those at the base of the wing. The long feathers are golden colors with a striped pattern all the way down the feather. The smaller feathers are shades of gold that shimmer in the moonlight on the tops. The underneath of the wings colors are muted. This is because of the raptor to keep the "prey" from seeing them until too late. Discipline’s;; Nocturnos without wings are fairly rare, and most breedings result in the owl wings versus regular wings, as it is a trait to this particular breed and aids in their night flight journeys. Every Nocturnos can enter the Fancy Dress. Most Nocturnos have good stamina for long or hard events – Dressage or Cross Country . All Nocturnos with wings do best in the Halter or Breed classes because attempting to get a saddle on over wings is not easy to do. Most Common – Halter, Fancy Dress, Horse breed Occasionally – Cross Country/Endurance, Dressage, Racing Personalities/Behavior;; Many Noctunros are wild but can be trained rather easily, especially when young. They are fierce competitors and strong as well as fast fliers. They can be docile when loved and cared for properly, however a rogue occurs rarely from a bad breeding or too much of the raptor in its blood. In these cases it should only be used as a breeder, not to show as the rogue gene is not carried over, it is just a rare occurrence, but they are a disaster at shows. Unlike daytime birds, they wake at sunset and are ready to sleep by sunrise. They can be easily worked with to become adjusted to the daytime switch, but are most happy when allowed their regular schedule. This ease in day-shifting makes them ideal for showing. Noctornos need to fly is instinctive due to the raptor blood and although they inherit no raptor qualities when it comes to hunting and eating flesh, they love to fly and will hover and dive at play. History;; Nocturnos were discovered in Europe hidden in the mountians. More on this later Song;; (*The call of the Great Eagle Owl is a deep resonant “ooh-hu” with emphasis on the first syllable for the male, and a more high-pitched uh-Hu for the female (in German, the name of this bird is "Uhu"). Each member of an Eagle Owl population can be identified by means of its vocalizations.*) This carries over in the Nocturnos breed. Along with the equine whinney and other noises most equines make, when performing the mating ritual or at play when diving and hovering, the Nocturnos call out with the inherited Great Eagle Owl Call of “ooh-hu”. In play with each other, it is almost like hearing a game of Marco-Polo. In the breeding ritual, the males call is lower and more seductive and guttural, while the females voice is long, airy and sensuous. *Taken from [link] |
